Keeping Networks Running: Go Communications Systems Ltd Story

Estimated: 2 minutes read

In the world of IT, change happens fast. One day, a network switch is the backbone of a company’s infrastructure. Next, it’s gathering dust in a storage cupboard. The cycle of replacing and upgrading is relentless but behind the hardware and flashing lights, there’s something more important, keeping businesses connected.

The Philosophy: Keep Things Running (With a Laugh or Two)

From day one, our focus wasn’t on pushing new technology or following the latest trends. Instead, it was about keeping things running smoothly, and having a bit of fun along the way. If there’s no humour, life can be very dull, and that’s simply not how we do things. Despite coming from different backgrounds, we’re a crack team made up of English, Austrian, Australian, Polish, Turkish, and a few others. But one thing we all agree on?

Humour is part of the job description.

When disaster strikes, it’s an English trait to make light of a situation, it’s what gets you through the stressful moments. And in networking, where things can occasionally go pear-shaped, that mindset helps. I always tell my team:

“If it were easy, everyone would be doing it.”

And most importantly:

“Do the job right the first time—because no one enjoys an ‘uh-oh’ moment later.”

Experience That Matters

Over the years, we’ve worked with everyone from global enterprises to small businesses, each facing their own unique challenges. Some needed replacement parts for ageing networks, others were navigating complex upgrades, and some were simply looking for ways to make their IT more efficient and environmentally friendly. Our experience working with networking technology became the foundation of what we do.

Compared to simply selling used equipment, aiming for refurbished perfection comes with its own challenges. I always remind my team:

“I’d rather be late and right than early and wrong.”

That’s the only caveat to what we do. We always advise customers to allow time, just as they would when ordering brand-new equipment. Trust me, rushing things never ends well, just ask anyone who’s tried assembling IKEA furniture without reading the manual.

Refurbishing: An Art Form, Not Just a Process

Refurbishing network equipment is a hugely time-consuming process. It involves:

  • Grading (No, not the kind teachers give, but just as important.)
  • Testing (Because "It should work" isn’t the same as "It does work.")
  • Repainting (A little makeover never hurts.)
  • Cleaning (Dust bunnies not included.)
  • Replacing missing parts (Because ‘some assembly required’ isn’t a good look for networking gear.)
  • Packaging (A custom box is our best friend.)

Looking Ahead

The IT industry never stands still. New technologies emerge, old systems become obsolete and businesses have to adapt or risk falling behind. One thing will always remain the same; companies need networks that work and they need people who understand how to keep them working.

As we look ahead, our focus remains on the same things that mattered when we started helping businesses stay connected, keeping IT simple, and making sure technology serves the people who rely on it.

At the end of the day, IT isn’t about hardware, it’s about the businesses, teams and people who need it to just work.
